1139 Einstein agrees he was wrong
Geoff talks through instant understanding
Now, see I know some of this already. His theory of relativity is going to be challenged. And the reason for that is, he had the most brilliant mathematical brain and he guessed everything right, but he didn’t get all the information that he needed. So, when I look at the stars, for example, you look at a star which is 10,000 light years away, how do you calculate the speed of that star, where it goes to, what temperature it’s at and so on? It’s all based on information that’s been gathered over the years and passed down from one generation to the next, and these brilliant minds going right back to Galileo for example have looked at it and said well we’ve worked out this and that and it gets improved all the time. And now that you’ve got the ability to see far deeper into space they’re starting to understand that it wasn’t quite what they thought it was and this all boils down to Einstein’s basic theory of relativity. It’s slightly flawed but not much. It’s simply because he didn’t see the last little bit of the puzzle which you’ve only been able to see now because you’ve got this new telescope which is up there able to see an awful lot more. But that also happened at the right time to change. Yes indeed. People can accept it a little bit more and a little bit easier now than they could.
If that was discovered back then, I suppose it could have changed their life, but it wasn’t mentioned in the book.
I mean you’re talking about going back two or three thousand years, they were calculating the speed of the sun around the earth or vice versa. And where the stars moved to and all sorts. So now with modern technology, of course, they’re simply finding out more and more and more. Yeah. But again, it’s the same thing with science. They don’t look at energy.
They don’t look at colours. They look at things which they can’t figure out how it works. I’m honestly getting Einstein here with a pipe. And he just takes it out of his mouth, he does, he says, yep, that’s it. I don’t know if it’s Einstein or just a memory.
Anyway, that’s what we’ll do for this evening.
