Astrology (Medieval)

Medieval astrology was practiced between 750 AD and 1500 AD, mainly by Arab and Persian astrologers who expanded on Greek scientific knowledge. During this period, astrology thrived, especially under Muslim rulers who encouraged scholars to study Greek science. In contrast, astrology had been suppressed earlier in Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire due to religious and political reasons. However, Western Europe saw renewed interest in astrology in the 11th century, which continued until the Renaissance and Reformation, when it was again suppressed. By the 17th century, the rise of science and new theories, such as the heliocentric model, reduced astrology’s credibility. However, in the late 20th century, ancient and medieval astrology experienced a revival, reintroducing spiritual and metaphysical questions.
